Isla Lipana & Co., the
Philippine member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, has led the search for the
country’s next mainstream destinations to mark the firm’s 91st
anniversary this year.
A
corporate social responsibility project of the firm, the Philippine Gems does
not only promote foreign tourism but also domestic tourism. With those
individuals coming in and appreciating the country, the firm hopes that
business investments will follow.
The
Philippine Gems aims to recognize
up and coming destinations in the country through online voting from 26 June to
9 August 2013. Philippine Gems will
showcase not the usual tourist spots but rather the wide range of diverse and
hidden natural wonders that bejewel our country from Batanes in the North to
Siargao in Mindanao.
“The increased awareness and appreciation of
our country by our own citizens and the rest of the world will give it more
prestige and attraction. Eventually, we trust that this initiative will pump
prime economic activities in the areas we are highlighting,” said incoming Isla
Lipana & Co. Chairman, Atty. Alex Cabrera.
The firm started with a list 175 destinations
gathered from their employees and online travel bloggers and trimmed this down
to 50. The screening committee agreed on a shortlist of 25 destinations which
will be open to public online voting to determine the ten Philippine Gems come
9 August.
This project was done in partnership with the
Philippine Tourism Promotions Board of the Department of Tourism and the
University of the Philippines-Asian Institute of Tourism. Both were also part
of the screening committee together with representatives from FleishmanHillard
Manila, Management Association of the Philippines, travel blogger James Betia
and media personalities Love Añover, Jing Lejano and Jose Javier Reyes.
