It has been said that a dog is a man’s best friend;
this phrase is very true to the many pet owners who flocked at the National
Geographic Channel (NGC) Doggy Day Camp held recently at the Amphitheater of
Fort Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City. Multitude of pet owners including
their families walked and lined up to that event as early as the sun rises.
Some of them had just finished their usual exercise routine having their dogs beside
them while jogging, some of them had just finished doing shopping ... cuddling their cute little
puppies while in the mall, some of them had just finished their morning breakfast in some cozy restaurant at the Fort with their dogs on
their lap while eating. And the list continues.
Pet lovers as they arrive one by one at the National
Geographic Doggy Day Camp at the Amphitheater in Fort Bonifacio High Street in
Taguig City.
As I roam around the area and take some pictures, I
saw different breeds of dogs from Chihuahua, Siberian Husky, Labrador, Pit
Bull, Bull Dog, Shih Tzu, Pug, German Shepherd, Chow Chow, Beagle, Greyhound, Dachshund,
Spaniel and a lot lot more. Some of them are as big as me when it stands on its
two feet others are small as a garbage rat … I could not imagine that dogs are
as diverse as these. Well, so much so for that, after the pet owners lined up
and registered, the first that welcome them is the Pedigree photo booth where
pet owners and their dogs were treated for a free photo opportunity where the
printed picture will be given to them in no time. They were also given a free
booklet on how to take care of dogs and of course, some yummy Pedigree products
for their pets. Next to that is the Furrr-fect grooming area where pets, no
matter how big it is, was given a sort of a pet spa …in this booth, dogs were
given a free hair cut, their pointed nails were cut off, they were given a perfume and a powder and
even a massage … Huh! I never thought dogs can also be pampered like many of the girls does. Ohh!
how I wish I was a dog at that time. He he he! At least for that time. Aside from that, they
also have the play area where dogs were given a time to relax, play, eat,
drink and mingle with other dogs … who knows these dogs might find their lifetime
partner they have been searching for in their life. (Just kidding)
One of the activities they had during the Doggy Day Camp
is the long awaited-parade where pet owners and their dogs walk side by side
along the road starting from the Amphitheater going to the main road and back
to the Amphitheater again.
Pet owners together with their dogs took sometime to
have their photos taken at the Pedigree booth where they were also given a free
booklet and some dog food.
With all the pampering, food and love that these
dogs are getting from the organizer of this event and from their owners … we cannot help to think that not all dogs
are living this way. Many dogs out there are being maltreated and being deprived of
food, water, affection, freedom and care that every dog should
have been experiencing as an animal. And speaking of animal rights, good thing the
Philippine Animal Welfare Society is also present in that event promoting the
rights of animals, giving education to prevent animal cruelty and advocating
responsible ownership to all animals including dogs, cats, birds, etc.
There were also lectures that were given during the
camp, and speakers like Mr. Ferds Recio who is the host of the Born to be Wild
show talked about how to feed your dogs properly and giving your dogs the right
nutrition graciously attended the event. Aside from him, Pawsitive Certified Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist; Ms. Joy Uy discussed the common behavioral issues of dogs that
pet owners should understand. And lastly, Philippine Animal Welfare Society’s
May Angela Felix shared the different responsibilities pet owners should
observe and do.
As I continue to walk around the dog camp premises, I noticed
that many of the dogs had their tongues out always as you will see in some of
the pictures here in my blog … this could be because of the hot weather during
that camp day. Hot and perspiring as it maybe, the thing is, everybody
enjoyed that wonderful Nat Geo Dog Day Camp that will surely inscribe in the hearts and mind of all dog lovers out there.
Paws up for DoggyDay Campers! Nice blog :))
