Sony Corporation, the leading manufacturer of audio,
video, game, communications, key device and information technology products
recently held its “Like Performing. Love Sony Grand Finale” event
where ten groups from different schools and universities in Metro Manila showcased their talent in singing and dancing at the Eastwood City Central Plaza. This is a rare chance for students to show what they’ve got on stage and performed in a large audience. This is the second time Sony Corporation is having this
event and the prizes are getting bigger every year. And speaking of prizes, Sony Philippines will be giving away 2,000 US dollars in cash and 7,000 US dollars worth of Sony products to the grand winner and he or she will be treated to a celebrity weekend lifestyle of pampering and glitz. They will also stand a chance to become the South East Asian Grand Champion which will be determined through an online voting contest between the country winners from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam for a cash prize of 50,000 US dollars. While the first and second runner-up will receive 1,000 and 500 US dollars respectively.

As the competition begins to unfold, each group went
on stage and display in front of the judges and the viewing crowd what they
have been practicing for many months. After the breathe-taking performances of
the participating schools and the brief stint of the group of Ajka, Madzstyle
Crew, Pasimuno--the moment has finally come in announcing of the winners. After
the nitty-gritty
task of judging is over, they finally awarded the
acoustic group “Song Pay Phone” from Polytechnic University of the Philippines as
the grand champion. While the first runner-up went to Ms. Jelo Anne Beatriz
Punzalan of Jose Rizal University. And lastly, who will forget Jose Marie
Flores of Lyceum of the Philippines who performed those back-breaking stunts
that led him to receive the second runner-up spot in this competition.
The ten finalist of the “Like Performing. Love Sony”
Grand Finale event who made their way on stage are the Masc Dancers of Adamson
University, Rochelle Ayson of San Beda College, Veggie Salad, Jose Marie Flores
of Lyceum of the Philippines, Song Pay Phone group of Polytechnic University of
the Philippines, Ms. Jelo Anne Beatriz Punzalan of Jose Rizal University, Goyav
dancers of Lyceum of the Philippines, Ms. Josarie Mae Beyrra of Jose Rizal
University, Fire Exit Group of Polytechnic University of the Philippines and
Chic Azz of Lyceum of the Philippines.
This is the second time Sony Corporation staged this
talent competition to all college students--where on its first year; a group
named “Attitude” from Lyceum of the Philippines got hold of the championship
prize.
With Sony’s commitment to be of help for the
development of the youth in our country—rest assured that this
program will continue and will make a great impact to our society.
