Nissan Goes the Extra Green Mile
for Sustainable Mobility
When Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. first announced that the worldwide sales of its CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) equipped vehicles reached more than one million, the company celebrated the achievement of its target not just in sales, but in its mid-term environmental plan under the 2010 Nissan Green Program.
At the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), Nissan Motor Philippines, Inc. (NMPI) shares the global phenomenon otherwise known as CVT, found at the heart of its three all-new models featured at its vehicle display: Nissan X-Trail CVT, Nissan Sentra 200 and NMPI’s latest offering, Nissan Teana.
“Increasing fuel costs, tightening environmental laws and restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions are propelling the automotive industry to develop and use green technologies for their vehicles,” NMPI President & CEO Allen Chen said. “The PIMS gives us an excellent opportunity to showcase what we at Nissan are doing – locally and globally – in terms of protecting the environment through advanced sustainable technology solutions that can be used for millions of cars.”
Nissan was one of the first automakers to recognize the benefits of the CVT engine when it was introduced in 1992. Since then, the company has continuously worked on the development of its performance and efficiency and to expand the deployment of this technology across its product line-up. Presently, the new XTronic CVT’s compact and lightweight design is smaller and lighter, while also achieving friction reduction for powerful acceleration performance, quiet operation and improved fuel economy. Nissan also takes pride in its legendary VQ engine, which has consistently been acknowledged as one of the best engines in the automotive world. What makes this engine award-winning is the rare combination of power, compact size, remarkable quietness and fuel efficiency.
“The CVT and VQ engine form part of our company objective to become a sincere ‘eco-innovator.’ Under the Nissan Green Program, we will continue to introduce new and green technologies, products and services that will address the three environmental issues we have regarded as paramount: real-world reduction in vehicle CO2 emissions, cleaner emissions, and recycling of resources,” Chen said.
