at Mad About Travel expo

There’s more to traveling than just seeing another place.  This was the underlying theme of the recently concluded Mad About Travel expo jointly organized by The Travel Club at the Greenbelt 3 lobby in Makati City. 

            A strong advocate of responsible travel, The Travel Club launched its I Travel.  I Care. campaign during the event.  This campaign encourages customers to travel responsibly by observing several guidelines, which include the use of environmentally-friendly travel gear, supporting local businesses, selecting modes of transportation that minimize carbon emissions and sustaining local culture, among others.

            The highly successful affair featured a series of informative talks about Philippine ecotourism by representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau, ecological sustainability courtesy of the Ayala Group while Eagle Creek representatives gave insights about packing properly, which further gave guests an improved appreciation of travel.  Moreover, the event showcased an impressive selection of travel gear offered at generously discounted rates.

            To further help guests have a better appreciation of responsible travel, the event also showcased a host of travel products that were made with the environment in mind.  Among the featured products included Sea to Summit, which creates innovative, lightweight products that support minimal human impact wherever your adventures might be.  Moreover, Sea to Summit is one of the founding sponsors of Leave No Trace Australia, which assists outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions on how to reduce their impact when they hike, camp, bike or climb.  A bag like Eagle Creek on the other hand, features a system of pouches that fit inside your luggage to keep clothes and other stuff organized, accessible and segregated, helping you to steer clear of unnecessary items and even trash.

            Also featured are products that are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which can cause severe health problems.  Backpacks from JANSPORT and Timbuk2 have eliminated the use of PVC in its reflector tabs and tails. 

The North Face on the other hand, designs and produces high performance outdoor equipment, apparel and footwear while reducing greenhouse emissions and minimizing waste products.  Alternatively, Nalgene features products that do not contain the chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA) while Envirosax provides eco-friendly reusable bags that are lightweight, portable, waterproof and can hold the equivalent of two supermarket plastic bags. 

            At the end of the event, guests were delighted to have discovered that there’s more to traveling than just seeing another place.  It’s also about doing your fair share in caring for the environment to make sure future travels remain an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
